Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)

This study assessed the impact of race adjustment when the data quality of a key predictor in a colorectal cancer risk prediction algorithm (reported family history of colorectal cancer) varied by race. We found that adjusting for race improved predictive performance and increased the fraction of Black participants among the predicted high-risk group. This study highlights an important and under-discussed consideration in the debate on race adjustment: When the data quality of input features varies by race, as frequently occurs in clinical settings, algorithms may benefit from race adjustments. Read More here.

Ada Lovelace Institute

This user guide has been developed by the Ada Lovelace Institute as part of a research partnership with the NHS AI Lab exploring algorithmic impact assessments (AIAs) in healthcare. This user guide describes the recommended algorithmic impact assessment (AIA) process for teams seeking access to imaging data from the proposed National Medical Imaging Platform (NMIP). It provides step-by-step guidance for project teams on how to conduct an algorithmic impact assessment (AIA) for their project. You can access it here.
