Social Justice - Join us for our DSxHE Download takeover on the 9th July when we'll discuss this paper on social justice & AI. Communicate For Health Justice (CFHJ) is interested to know how is your industry communicating for (global) health justice? Share your perspective by taking part in the CFHJ survey.
Statistical Methods - Come along to our monthly meet-ups! Almost 100 tickets were snapped up for last month's event. Everyone is welcome: expect fascinating talks, in-depth discussions, & all-round interesting chat on everything to do with statistical methods & health equity.

Mental Health - we're aiming to equip the community to harness the potential of data science to improve our understanding of mental health & promote mental health equity. At the moment we're exploring the needs and interests of people with lived experience of mental health concerns and NHS staff providing services. The Model was developed to engage multi-stakeholders to collectively engage communities, identify barriers to AI implementation, and uncover opportunities to use AI to advance health equity.

As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly approaches human-level performance in medical imaging, it must not exacerbate or propagate healthcare disparities. Previous research established AI’s capacity to infer demographic data from chest X-rays, leading to a key concern: do models using demographic shortcuts have unfair predictions across subpopulations? In this study, the authors conducted a thorough investigation into the extent to which medical AI uses demographic encodings, focusing on potential fairness discrepancies within both in-distribution training sets and external test sets. The Hub has been developed to make it easier to find online resources that enable the development of digital and data skills across the health and social care workforce. The Hub hosts free resources and learning activities provided by a range of organisations for staff and volunteers across the NHS, health and social care partnerships, local authorities, social care, social work, care providers, housing, and third and independent sectors, to ensure everyone is supported to build the digital and data skills required to do their job and develop their career. Mental Health Award: Accelerating scalable digital mental health interventions. This call will fund research to evaluate and further develop scalable digital interventions to advance early intervention in depression, anxiety and psychosis. Teams must include the research expertise required to drive the proposed research, an organisation which can take the intervention to scale (whether a company or not-for-profit) and lived experience experts.
